In Northern California: Charmaine at Yoshi's

On July 16 (Thursday), the leading jazz vocalists of the Philippines will be performing together at Yoshi's Oakland in a special kickoff concert for the upcoming 2nd Annual San Francisco Filipino American Jazz Festival. Tickets for the 8PM and 10PM shows are now available.
Charmaine Clamor, the creator of jazzipino and the first and only Filipino recording artist to place consecutive albums in the JazzWeek World Music radio Top-10, returns to the Bay Area with her renowned quartet. Considered "one of the important and original jazz singers of the decade" by critic Don Heckman (LA TIMES, International Review of Music), Clamor has earned international praise for introducing listeners to the languages and melodies of her birth country -- and for her once-in-a-generation soulful voice. In addition to her recent FAMAS Award (Filipino Oscar) for "Philippines Pride Best Jazz Singer," Ms. Clamor was recently nominated for a prestigious Asian Heritage Award in the category of Performing Arts.
Charmaine's special guest will be her frequent collaborator MON DAVID, the winner of the 2006 London International Competition for Jazz Vocalists -- the first and only Filipino to earn the honor. Mr. David will preview music from his upcoming American debut recording, "Coming True." He is headlining the 2nd Annual Filipino American Jazz Festival, in Yerba Buena Gardens, this August.

In Manila: Phil Opera Company presents Harana
Philippine Opera Company presents “Harana” on May 28, 29 and 30 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
The concert will also be a fitting sendoff for leading Filipino opera artists Ana Feleo, Deeda Barretto, Karla Gutierrez, Florence Aguilar, Sherwin Sozon, Lawrence Jatayna, Noel Rayos and Miguel Castro as they embark on their first international tour to the Netherlands.
Harana, the traditional serenading of a woman by her window, is part of the local courtship practices. Thus, the concert’s repertoire will include such Pinoy classic love songs as “Bituing Marikit,” “Dahil Sa Isang Bulaklak,” “Pamaypay ng Maynila,” “Iyo Kailan Pa Man,” “Saan Ka Man Naroroon,” “Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal” and “Hindi Kita Malimot,” as well as regional favorites such as “Manang Biday” and “Salidumbay,” to name some.
POC president Karla Gutierrez says “Harana” will take its audience through a spectacular musical journey showcasing the best of RP music. She says “each ‘Harana’ musical suite is theatrically presented, the product of thorough research and of a commitment to preserve the authenticity of indigenous RP music, dance and folklore, as well as to evolve repertoires suited to contemporary theater.”

Lalawigan: A Contemporary Tagalog Song Cycle
World Premiere: Sat, March 14 & 15 Cowell Theatre (Ft Mason) San Francisco, CA

Composer Florante Aguilar tells a compelling story of resolute courage, passionate love, and sacrifice. Lalawigan is a poetic narrative, inspired by the fierce 1898 Philippine revolutionary hero, Macario Sakay, an ever-present mythic town ghost, and the common folk – the backbone of the revolution. Lalawigan is sung in ancient Tagalog (with English supertitiles) accompanied by new compositions evoking the sensuous eloquence and virtuosity of the Philippine string tradition of kudyapi, harana, and kundiman.

Harana movie in production
Harana movie is currently in production. Here's the info found from the official website:

The Harana documentary film explores this custom and its music through the eyes of classical guitarist Florante Aguilar. Born and raised in the Philippines, as a young boy in the province of Cavite, Florante heard music and mythical stories spoken by his elders. Now living in the US and championing Filipino music - Florante travels back to the home country to search for and rediscover the last surviving practitioners of a long lost art - before its complete demise.
Led by award winning director Benito Bautista, the film contains a treasure trove of beautiful Filipino music awaiting to be rediscovered. Intent on preserving vanishing customs, the film rekindles a connection with the past before it is irrevocably lost, and portrays a side of the Philippines rarely seen.
Charmaine Clamor's Harana: A Filipino Serenade

Filipino American artist Charmaine Clamor know for her jazz tunes will release her Harana album later this month. Here's what she posted on her blog:
"I am so excited! We just completed our harana project; it's mastered and ready for the factory. The album is composed of the most precious harana (serenade songs) from different regions in the Philippines, sung in at least 8 dialects and languages. Different indigenous instruments were used as well. I collaborated with Naxos recording artist, Richard Ickard, and have Mon David, the 2006 London International Jazz Vocal Competition Winner, as a special guest. I cannot wait to share this album with you (and the fabulous photos, too!). Look for the CD in October of 2008."
Her album My Harana: A Filipino Serenade is available at Amazon, CD Baby and iTunes.
